MDC Scholarships

Miami, August 26, 2011 – Three students at the renowned Eig-Watson School of Aviation at Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Homestead Campus recently won scholarships worth $6,000 each, awarded by the Greater Miami Aviation Association’s (GMAA) Batchelor Aviation Scholarship Fund.

The winners are Sylvia Quinn, currently enrolled in the Air Traffic Controller program and active in the Aviation Management Student Association; Ian M. Pico, who was on the Flight Team and plans to transfer to Embry- Riddle University after completing his flight training at MDC; and Kathleen Suarez, a 2011 Eig-Watson Scholarship recipient, who is in the Professional Pilot Technology Program and also participated on the Flight Team.

“We are very proud of our students,” said Diana D. Lewis, director of MDC’s Eig-Watson School of Aviation. “This is a great distinction and speaks highly of our program.”

Fostering professionalism in aviation, the GMAA-Batchelor Aviation Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to qualified aviation students pursuing a career in the South Florida Aviation industry. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic and aviation achievement, leadership and financial need. Ten to 12 scholarships worth up to $6,000 are awarded each year to qualified South Florida college students majoring in aviation and aviation-related programs.

The Fund is named in honor of the late aviation pioneer George Batchelor, who made a significant impact on the South Florida aviation industry and community. Thanks to a major contribution from Batchelor in 1994 and by the Batchelor Family and Foundation in 2003, the Fund has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships.

Dean International Paves the Way for a Commercial Flight Training Program to Pakistan Students

September 5, 2011 in Dean News

When Muhammad Kashif dreamed of becoming a pilot, He never expected to complete it in the United States and with a full Commercial Program and Jumbo Jet type rating. Since He was a boy, he always dreamed of becoming a pilot, but unfortunately his country of origin did not provide him with the necessary elements and tools to provide him with the opportunity of fulfilling his dream. When he became of age and was able to start flight training, he tried to go several schools within the middle east but unfortunately with the time and training limitations he was unable to complete a full commercial pilot program. At that time, he learned of Dean International, a flight school located in Miami Florida in the United States of America. The entire time, he had no idea that he could even apply for a student visa to come the United States since he had learned that most student visas from Pakistan to the USA where nearly impossible to obtain. However after going through the process of obtaining an F1 Student Visa to come to the United States with the Help of Dean International Flight School, his dream of becoming a commercial pilot became a reality. He came to the United States in November of 2010 and graduated as a commercial pilot on July 2011 and obtained his Airbus Type Rating on September of 2011. He states, “My dreams have come true, not only as Commercial Pilot but as a Pakistani Citizen.” He further goes on to mention that, “The Opportunities presented by Dean International, gives every pakistani citizen dreaming to become an airline pilot the chance to fulfill their dreams.” Muhammad Kashif is Dean International’s first Pakistani Dean Alumni Graduate. His success opens many flight training opportunities to students from Pakistan.

American Eagle Airlines recently used pilot recruitment tool, PilotPool.com, to reach out to hundreds of pilots to notify them of newly reduced hiring minimums to 500 TT / 50 ME / ATP RJ Program. American Eagle also announced that pilots hired at 500 TT / 50 ME will be sent to a 7-Day Regional Jet Standards Certification Program at American Eagle’s expense.
